11 Benefits of online tutoring

* Your teacher is a specialist dyslexia tutor who understands the problems you and your child are having and who understands which programs are effective interventions.

* It doesn't matter where you live, whether it is in the city suburbs, in the wheatbelt, the canefields or the outback, your child can get the help he or she needs.

* Your tutor 'comes to you' (via the internet).  Your time is not being wasted in travelling.

* Your child will receive one-on-one individualised help.  There are no group sessions.

* You can know that the literacy programs used by Tutoring Services are effective intervention programs and are recommended by the Dyslexia SPELD Foundation in Perth.

* Know that your concerns are being listened to and your child's needs are being addressed.

* See improved levels of confidence and self esteem in your child.

* See improvements in your child's reading and maths skills.

* Learn how you can help your child and what strategies are the best ones to use.

* You can begin your child's six months' intervention straight away.

* If your child has been unwell and is not quite well enough to return to school, he can still have his tuition session. No risk of infection being passed around!  You can even c
arry on with tutoring whilst away or on holidays if you wish.  (Even if the teacher is 'sick', your session can still continue. There is no need for a relief / substitute teacher!)

What equipment do we need for online tuition?

Your child will need:
  • access to a laptop or computer with webcam facilities and the internet. Having a printer is also a good idea.
  • Your child will also need an exercise book and pencil or writing tool. A scrap book is a good idea to have to help with organising your child's papers.
  • Finally, it is a good idea for your child to have YOU there alongside him.   Your presence means that you are learning how to help your child whilst he is learning. This means that you can provide back up help at home between sessions.

How does online tuition work?

Your child's sessions are one-on-one and are usually twice-three times per week for 30 minutes.
The sessions are conducted via the Zoom platform which is a much more stable and suitable platform for tutoring than SKYPE.  Your tutor will provide you with a link to her 'Zoom room' via an email.

During the sessions, your child will be able to view the tutor's computer and will receive explicit instruction on how to do the tasks.

Follow-up activities are emailed to you to help consolidate the learning that has been taught in the session.
